Bruce Rauner Statement on Madigan-Cullerton Lawsuit

Republican candidate for governor Bruce Rauner issued the following statement regarding the lawsuit by House Speaker Michael Madigan and Senate President John Cullerton to overturn Governor Pat Quinn's legislative pay veto:

"Springfield has never looked more dysfunctional, and the people of Illinois deserve better. Instead of showing leadership and solving the pension crisis, the politicians running Springfield are once again pointing fingers at each other and are afraid to take on the government union bosses. This is why we need to shake Springfield to its core."

Joe Walsh joins Pastor Corey Brooks this Saturday at the "Let us Live" Peace March

So these two the makings of a third party in Illinois?

July 25, 2013 – Chicago, IL – AM 560 The Answer's Joe Walsh will join Pastor Corey Brooks of New Beginnings Church this Saturday, July 27 for the "Let us Live" Peace March, in downtown Chicago. The march is being organized by Brooks and Project Hood and will begin at 12pm at Roosevelt and Michigan Ave.

... Walsh interviewed Pastor Brooks on his radio show on Wednesday night and encouraged listeners to join him and Brooks for the march. Pastor Brooks stated, "We have an epidemic and although this is a problem on the south side in the black community, it's an issue that we cannot resolve on our own. We
need help to figure out a way for young black males to stop killing young black males. We're asking everyone to join us to raise the level of awareness and let people know this is not a black issue, it's a humanitarian issue."

Walsh stated, "While so many leaders have been grandstanding, Pastor Brooks is doing a lot to help fix the hurt and reduce the violence in Chicago. I'm honored to join him for this peace march. This is all about unity. No matter color you are, this problem belongs to us all."

Walsh was elected to Congress in 2010 to represent the Eighth Congressional District of Illinois and served until 2013. He now hosts The Joe Walsh Show, weekday afternoons from 5-8pm on AM 560 The Answer. For more details go to www.WalshFreedom.com

Move over NSA, here comes the Obamacare Big Brother database

James Robbins on the massive Federal Data Hub the Obamacare Navigators will use to recruit people into Obamacare.  Access to our Medical Records will be handed over to Political Activists outside the supervision of Civil Service regulations.  This makes NSA look like really small stuff.

….the hacker threat is the least of the Data Hub worries. The hub will be used on a daily basis by so-called Navigators, which according to the GAO are “community and consumer-focused nonprofit groups, to which exchanges award grants to provide fair and impartial public education” and “refer consumers as appropriate for further assistance.” Thousands of such people will have unfettered access to the Data Hub, but there are only sketchy guidelines on how they will be hired, trained and monitored. Given the slap-dash, incoherent way Obamacare is being implemented the prospect for quality control is low. And the Obama administration’s track record of sweetheart deals, no-bid, sole-source contracting and other means of rewarding people with insider access means the Data Hub will be firmly in the hands of trusted White House loyalists.

So if you think the IRS targeting Tea Party groups was bad, just wait for the Obamacare Navigators to be unleashed. “Trust us,” the administration says, no one will abuse the Data Hub. Sure, because that has worked out so well in the past.

Rep Monique Davis: ‘Maybe The Police Are Killing Some Of These Kids’

Here's a jaw dropper: State Rep.: 'Maybe The Police Are Killing Some Of These Kids'

WBBM Newsradio's Steve Miller reports state Rep. Monique Davis (D-Chicago) was interviewed about Chicago crime Tuesday on WCHB-AM in Detroit.

"I'm going to tell you what some suspicions have been, and people have whispered to me: they're not sure that black people are shooting all of these children," Davis said.

"There's some suspicion – and I don't want to spread this, but I'm just going to tell you what I've been hearing – they suspect maybe the police are killing some of these kids."

When WBBM asked Davis if she thinks it's possible that police are killing children, she said, "I don't know. I don't know that they are, and I don't know that they aren't, since no one's been arrested. We don't know who's doing it."

Betty's Blog: THE SCHULTZ DOCTRINE IN ILLINOIS

A clip from Betty's Blog (but please go read the whole thing) on Lisa Madigan's I know nothing style.

A tax group has been waiting a YEAR for her approval to sue her Don Cheech's buddies in Cicero ….somehow SHE has to approve the filing. How many other communities [where her Daddy is involved] have some similar lawsuits that she is "sitting on"? She went to the same school they all did, they learned the Shultz Doctrine and learned it well.

I think if you check you will see those communities ALL have insurance provided by her brother and guess how many of those people vote for this insanity over and over, they're bought and paid for and they sell their own lives and yours down the drain every election. No big deal right? The State is awash in scandal, broke, paying out billions to everyone who 'does the right things' for those in control of YOUR MONEY.

As attorney general, she should be filing charges of malfeasance and nonfeasance of office of EVERY legislature over the state's pension mess but the Shultz Doctrine seems to prevent that.

Congresswomen Cheri Bustos votes with GOP to delay Obamacare

Via CNN,

The GOP campaign committees have made a top priority of putting Democrats in competitive districts - specifically those elected in 2012 - on the defensive on health care. And in fact the list of those who supported the GOP bills mirrored a list of Democrats whom Republicans believe they can defeat in 2014.

Illinois freshman Rep. Cheri Bustos is one of the House GOP's targets. She voted with Republicans on both bills to postpone the mandates and told CNN she has been hearing concerns from small businesses all over her district about dealing with Obamcare's requirements.

"If we're going to say that for small businesses then how do you separate out that it should be different for individuals, it's a consistency thing." Bustos said, echoing an argument that House Republicans made throughout the debate on the House floor.

An argument lost two other colleagues of Bustos from Illinois: Tammy Duckworth and Bill Foster (Foster having voted for the abomidable bill in the first place).

Affordable Care Act set to raise Premiums on 60% of small companies in Massachusetts

Avik Roy in Forbes on the mess the Affordable Care Act's created in Massachustts with rating factors that will result in 60% of small companies in Massachusetts experiencing premium increases.  Don Berwick of all people (now running for Gov in Mass himself) wants out (a waiver) from ACA rules.

This begs the question– could the state of Massachusetts build a legal case that establishes standing to sue the federal government since it was "harmed" by the denial of a full waiver?

While the politics of the state make this unlikely– the same would have been said about a waiver request six months ago.

Stirring the pot further, came the news that Don Berwick supports efforts to obtain more flexibility from the ACA.

The former CMS chief, and now Democratic candidate for governor, was quoted in the Boston Globe as saying "I'm happy to see us [Massachusetts] request latitude to continue what, I think, is an important example for the country."

We all want waivers Don.  We all do.

Congresswoman Cheri Bustos Speaks Out Against Furloughs & Sequestration On House Floor

The Congresswoman writes,

I rise to speak out once again against the sequestration-caused furloughs that are punishing workers who I represent in Illinois.
Sequestration cuts were designed to be so painful and terrible they would never see the light of day.
But this week, they will begin, unnecessarily, hurting working families across the country.

Were designed by who?  By President Obama of course, and designed to be especially painful and terrible on our National Defense.  How stupid must Bustos think we are in the midwest not to see through this?

Metra CEO memo alleges more Madigan influences - chicagotribune.com

Alex Clifford’s golden parachute makes sense now.  He’s got dirt on heavy hitters.

“In the last year, I have refused on several occasions to make employment-related decisions based upon political sponsorship or support of an employee or applicant by members of the Illinois legislature,” he wrote. “As a result, Mr. O’Halloran and Mr. Huggins have criticized my conduct.”
And no refusal was more damaging than his rebuking of Madigan, the memo suggested.

In March 2012, Madigan contacted a Metra lobbyist and informed him that he would like Patrick Ward, a labor relations specialist with the agency, to receive a raise, according to the memo. The speaker also asked that another unnamed individual be given a job, Clifford wrote.

Clifford said he ordered his staff not to respond to the requests, but the issue resurfaced six months later when then-Chairman Huggins said that he had heard from Madigan and the speaker wanted Ward to be given a pay increase. The memo states that Clifford refused the request, saying it would be against state law.

“An argument with Mr. Huggins ensued over my failure to do so,” Clifford wrote.

Comment: The generals of the First World War were heroes, not fools

On the coming revisionism in WW1 History.  Sophie Shrubsole on the first rewrite and the one to come.

It took literature and some key individuals to change history.  As one of my university lecturers once said to me, history does not happen, it is written, and that principle could not be applied more strongly to the case of First World War history.

With the publication of Alan Clark's The Donkeys (1961) and the production of Joan Littlewood's musical Oh! What a Lovely War (1963), a wave of popular history provided the foundation through which all subsequent knowledge of the First World War is filtered - precisely the problem with which we are now faced.  Historians and thespians took the critical words of those men that had a grudge and an agenda to push, namely Lloyd George and Churchill, thus generating the idea that generals were both inept and callous.

But beyond the Blackadder episodes there is a raft of history that is desperate to break into the mainstream.  No one doubts that there were a handful of poor officers at various stages of the command structure who made bad decisions that ultimately cost the lives of hundreds of men.

But as a country, we seem to forget as a matter of course that 1918 brought us victory.  Could this have been possible against the might of Germany's Imperial Army with such incompetent leadership?  Clearly there is another history to expose.

Modern Healthcare: Walgreens, Blues team up on exchange campaign

Via Modern Healthcare,
Walgreens, the nation's largest drugstore chain, is teaming up with the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Associationon a national campaign to educate the public about new state health insurance exchanges and opportunities to sign up for expanded coverage starting Oct. 1.
Through LearnAboutReform.com, a website launched by the two organizations, consumers have access to information about eligibility, enrollment and benefits under the new healthcare reform law. And nearly all of the more than 8,000 Walgreens stores across the country will include informational brochures and signs to promote the new insurance exchanges. The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association has member health plans in 38 states.

"The Affordable Care Act will expand access to health insurance for millions of Americans and broaden health benefits, but many Americans have had little experience purchasing health coverage and are confused about what the law means to them," Maureen Sullivan, BCBSA senior vice president of strategic services and chief strategy officer, said in a release. "Our partnership with Walgreens is another example of our commitment to ensuring that all Americans have the tools they need to understand these changes and access affordable health insurance coverage that meets their needs."

Walgreen's and BCBSA's Maureen Sullivan ought to take a hard looks at the NFL's decision to back off shilling for Obamacare. An unpopular law that Walgreen's has a big financial hook into, and a law likely to bomb with great expense to the Taxpayer.  A flop Progressives will quickly stick on greedy Insurance companies too.

Doesn't Walgreens have some PR people who might point out this is a lousy Government Program to hook their brand too?

Obamacare's Phoney Navigator Scams

Lindsay Wise writes in Scams prey on 'Obamacare' confusion,

The FTC's Greisman worries that some scammers will exploit the government's efforts to better educate consumers by pretending to be certified "navigators." The administration has announced $54 million in grants for navigator groups, which will be tasked by law to help uninsured Americans sign up for benefits in the exchanges.

All navigators must be impartial, certified and trained, said Richard Olague, spokesman for the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Some states may require fingerprinting or background checks, Olague said. But it isn't yet clear whether navigators will be allowed to use telemarketing or unsolicited emails in their outreach and education efforts.

"What we're very likely to see is (fake navigators saying), 'For an upfront fee we can help you,' but there shouldn't be an upfront fee, it should be free," Greisman said.

She said her agency is waiting for the Department of Health and Human Services to finalize rules for the navigators before advising consumers on how best to distinguish real navigators from fake ones.

With less than three months left before exchanges open, the clock is ticking.

Read more here: http://www.kansascity.com/2013/07/09/4337246/sick-scams-prey-on-obamacMuch attention has focused on the law's "navigators" — people who will help consumers shop for health insurance — but Wednesday's announcement suggests that federal funds will support a range of similar positions.

The grants were distributed by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to "complement" the "navigator" program, according to HHS.

"Health centers are excited to help individuals in their communities take advantage of the benefits" under the Affordable Care Act, said HRSA Administrator Mary Wakefield in a statement.

"Having trained, face-to-face assistance in enrollment from trusted resources at local health centers means that more people will get the help they need."

I'm betting the line between an Obamacare Navigator and an Obamacare Scam Artist is going to be pretty thin.  I doubt these navigators will have much training, will be well supervised, and will be under a lot of pressure to enroll bodies (and tempted to skim a bit on the side).

Watch this program.  They'll be plenty of abuse to write about.

Former Congressman Joe Walsh Elevated to Afternoon Drive on Chicago's AM 560 The Answer

July 2, 2013 – Chicago, IL – AM 560 The Answer (WIND/Chicago) announced today that beginning July 3 former Illinois Congressman Joe Walsh's radio show will be expanding to three hours and moving up to 5-8pm weekdays. Walsh started on The Answer on March 25, 2013, hosting nightly 7-9pm.

"In just three months, the response to Joe's show has been overwhelmingly positive from both our listeners and advertisers," said General Manager Jeff Reisman.

"The only complaint was from Joe … He had more to say than we could fit into two hours, so we're adding an extra hour and are moving his show to drive time in Chicago," added Program Director Marcus Brown. "Joe isn't just a rising star in talk radio. He's a meteor, and his potential for success in this business is enormous."

"Doing a talk show is hard work, but it's a labor of love. I'm able to talk with real people every day about all of the critical issues facing our state and our country. As it turns out, there are more important issues to talk about on Chicago radio than just sports." said Walsh. "I'm hoping the new time enables Mayor Emanuel and Governor Quinn to listen more often. They might learn something."

Walsh was elected to Congress in 2010 to represent Illinois' Eighth Congressional District and became a leading voice in the Tea Party movement. He served in Congress until this past January. He was born and raised in North Barrington. He graduated from the University of Iowa and holds a Master's Degree in Public Policy from the University of Chicago. He lives in McHenry, Illinois, with his wife, Helene. Between them, they have five children.

With the line-up change also comes the opportunity to feed the growing appetite for Dennis Prager. Prager, a Salem Radio Network host, moves to an earlier time, and can now be heard daily from 8p – 11p.

The new weekday line-up for AM 560 The Answer, effective July 3 will be:

5am-9am        John Howell and Amy Jacobson

9am-11am      Glenn Beck

11am-2pm      Dennis Miller

2pm-5pm        Michael Medved

5pm-8pm        Joe Walsh

8pm-11pm      Dennis Prager

11pm-2am      Mike Gallagher

2am-5am        Hugh Hewitt

AM 560 The Answer is owned and operated by Salem Communications Corporation (NASDAQ:SALM), the largest commercial U.S. radio broadcasting company that provides programming targeted at audiences interested in Christian and conservative opinion content, as measured by the number of stations and audience coverage. Upon completion of all announced transactions, the company will own and/or operate a national portfolio of 99 radio stations in 38 markets, including 61 stations in 22 of the top 25 markets.
