Trib endorses Dr. Eric Wallace, along with a slam against the State GOP.
The Republican Party isn't paying much attention to the 2nd District's special election, and it's easy to see why. The Republican candidate for Congress in 2012 won just 23 percent of the vote, and Democrat Jesse Jackson Jr. didn't even campaign.
But the GOP does have a contested primary with five candidates.
Our nod goes to Eric Wallace of Flossmoor on the basis of his long ties to the south suburban community. Wallace earned a doctorate in biblical studies and runs a multimedia company. His opposition to a regional airport is troubling. He would, though, set up an interesting general election debate, given his support for the repeal of the Affordable Care Act and promotion of dramatic tax reform.
