Feds indict Cook County Commissioner Beavers - Blogs On Politics - Crain's Chicago Business

It gets to be ho-hum; another Cook County Politician going down.

Mr. Beavers long has been a staunch defender of Chicago-style patronage. A brassy sort who once termed himself “the hog with the big nuts,” he also was a big backer of the controversial sales-tax hike pushed through by former Cook County Board President Todd Stroger, and he resisted efforts by the new president, Toni Preckwinkle, to replace it.

The feds need to clean their own house first...they have no credibility and that will be a cloud over every indictment.

Bill, Maybe you can help me understand this case...Beavers is being charged with not paying taxes on income...Why didn't Beavers negotiate the discrepancy with the IRS? Every time someone doesn't do as Fitzgerald wishes they get slapped with an indictment and everyone in Chicago seems to think this guy walks on water...

I don't have any special insights other than this. Yesterday I spoke with a resident of the old 7th who told me Beaver's corruption was not a secret, he bragged of it, so you have to wonder if Beavers wasn't speaking the truth: the feds said wear a wire 'cause we've set our sights hire than you, or else.
