Goldfarb: Lost Without His Entourage

Another post in full from Michael Goldfarb,

The campaign released the following statement from Command Sergeant Major Craig Layton, USA (Ret.):

"Having spent two years as the Command Sergeant Major at Landstuhl Hospital, I am always grateful for the attention that facility receives from members of Congress. There is no more important work done by the United States Army than to care for those who have been wounded in the service our country. While Americans troops remain engaged in two hot wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, there is a steady stream of casualties to the hospital, and a steady stream of visitors who wish to meet with those troops and thank them for their service. "

Senator Obama has explained his decision to cancel a scheduled visit there by blaming the military, which would not allow one of his political advisers to join him in a tour of the facility. Why Senator Obama felt he needed an adviser with him to visit U.S. troops is unclear, but if Senator Obama isn't comfortable meeting wounded American troops without his entourage, perhaps he does not have the experience necessary to serve as commander in chief."

While the Washington Post plays defense for Team Obama, even the New York Times is compelled to ask: "Why didn’t Mr. Obama leave his aides behind, even the retired general, and make the visit by himself?"

The Politico can't find an answer to that question either.

Obama, Blackwater and Alsammarae

US News and World Report writes,
Sen. Barack Obama has not been a fan of private police like Blackwater in war zones, and some news outlets even reported that they were spurned for his trip last week to Afghanistan and Iraq. But Whispers confirms that Blackwater did handle the Democratic presidential candidate's security in Afghanistan and helped out in Iraq. What's more, Obama was overheard saying: "Blackwater is getting a bad rap." Since everything appeared to go swimmingly, maybe he will take firms like Blackwater out of his sights, the company's supporters hope.
Considering Maliki alleges Blackwater busted Alsammarae out of the Green Zone, this isn't much of a surprize from Obama. Illinois Pols way to close to this outfit.

Obama's Landstuhl No Show

A Michael Goldfarb post in full.
The campaign released the following statement today from Michael Durant, US Army (Ret.), on Barack Obama’s canceled visit to wounded troops in Germany. On October 3, 1993, while piloting an MH60 Black Hawk in Somalia, Durant was shot down and held captive by hostile forces. He was released 11 days later.

"Over the last week, Barack Obama made time in his busy schedule to hold a rally with 200,000 Germans in Berlin, hold a press conference with French President Nicholas Sarkozy in Paris, and hold a solo press conference in front of 10 Downing Street in London. The Obama campaign had also scheduled a visit with wounded U.S. troops at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, but this stop was canceled after it became clear that campaign staff, and the traveling press corps, would not be allowed to accompany Senator Obama.

"I've spent time at Ramstein recovering from wounds received in the service of my country, and I'm sure that Senator Obama could have made no better use of his time than to meet with our men and women in uniform there. That Barack Obama believes otherwise casts serious doubt on his judgment and calls into question his priorities."

You can check out Durant's website here.

Meanwhile, Obama campaign senior strategist Robert Gibbs continues to walk back the explanation for Obama's decision to skip the visit. After first shifting the blame to the Pentagon in a statement to the Chicago Sun-Times("they said he should not come"), Gibbs clarified this morning, telling MSNBC “We never said that the Pentagon prevented us from going.”'s "It Could Happen to You" ad

This is a pro-Obama ad that will airing on the comedy channel. The Real Barack Obama writes,
Before you read any further, there’s something really, really depressing about this ad. No, it’s not the content; heaven knows that’s depressing enough. What’s really, really, really sad is that this ad—officially known as “It Could Happen to You”—selected by members of in a contest for 30-second pro-Obama videos, was voted the funniest. Honestly, RBO wouldn’t kid about this.

The funniest??? This ad was the FUNNIEST? What were the other entries? Wait! RBO doesn’t want to know.

However, if thinks that this is funny, it’s Comedy Central that’ll be getting the last laugh—all $150,000
Humor doesn't work sometimes.... this is a good example.

Lee Stranahan on Democrat's dilemma with Edwards

The reason MSM is not on the Edward's story is because Democrats haven't figured out how they can keep Edward's off the podium in Denver. So best not talk about the misrable affair.

Lee Stranahan writing in Huff Po that ignoring it a bad idea,
Despite what some people are going to say, this is news. A former Senator and Vice Presidential candidate who was running for President less than six months ago and is now on the short list for Vice President has an long affair during the campaign and fathers a child, covers it up, and then is caught at a hotel with the mother of the child. News! Oh -- and his wife made regular appearances on the campaign trail and has been diagnosed with cancer. If it were Mitt Romney, you'd be hearing peels of laughter and the satisfying smacking sound of Merlot and Starbucks fueled high fives coming from the nearest blue state. Would it have made the progressive blogs? C'mon, of course it would...with funny pictures and as many self-satisfied comments as you can shake a Macbook Air at.
Edward's a guy who deserves to be thrown under a bus and it's just Obama and MSM haven't quite figured out how. They need to asap 'cause the blogosphere is on it.

Nick Cohen: Why Bush has been a liberal's best friend

A good column by Nick Cohen on what I think we'll be the start of the great crack up Cohen once wrote would come for the left.
By building him [Bush] up into a great Satan, the oil man who invades countries to seize their reserves and the Christian who orders bloody crusades, they have hidden the totalitarian threats of our age from themselves and anyone who listens to them. Bush allowed them to explain away radical Islam as an understandable, even legitimate, response to the hypocrisies and iniquities of American policy. Even those in the European elites who do not buy the full 'America has it coming' package believe that Bush is a cowboy who doesn't understand that the postmodern way to end conflict is to compromise rather than fight.

In January, Bush will be history, leaving liberals all alone in a frightening world. Little else will change. Radical Islam will still authorise murder without limit, Iran will still want the bomb and the autocracies of China and Russia will still be growing in wealth and confidence. All those who argued that the 'root cause' of the Bush administration lay behind the terror will find that the terror still flourishes when the root cause has retired.

In their book, After Bush, professors Timothy J Lynch and Robert S Singh highlight the obvious truth that the West is in a new Cold War. Whatever his disagreements with Bush on detail, the new President will have to stop radical Islamist movements and regimes gaining nuclear, chemical or biological weapons because he will know, as we already know, when we are honest with ourselves, that they will use them. Even if we have a President Obama, the continuities in American foreign policy will be more striking than the contrasts.

Obama made their point for them in his Berlin speech. Repeatedly, he emphasised that the resolve that had won the Cold War had to be applied to the war against terror. 'Partnership and co-operation among nations is not a choice; it is the one way, the only way, to protect our common security and advance our common humanity,' he declared.

Not all Europeans will want co-operation. A minority will never escape from the slogans and attitudes of the Bush years and Obama and his wife must expect the same treatment as Condoleezza Rice. However, now that the majority of liberals seems likely to get the American President of their dreams, they will have to offer him their support, won't they?
Be interesting to see if they do. I'm not as certain as Cohen they'll have the test although it would be exactly what's passing for Liberalism these days needs.

Ayham al-Samurai fugitive Rejection of the police service for moral reasons returned to become minister thieves!!

A google translation of this,

Part I /

1956. Ayham al-Samurai, the fugitive was born in Baghdad / Karkh in 1956. The unemployed in 1974 when it was submitted to the Directorate of Police Intelligence and Rescue for belonging to the police, he was eighteen years of age.

((Refer book Aldjaevr security aides of the Karkh security directorate sent to the Directorate of confidentiality restrictions (identity) v No. 418 in the 25 / 4 / 1974 that the name is Momo (Hamid Jassim Ayham al-Samurai), his unemployed labour In the fifth paragraph of it ( Political direction) indicates that the book (he has a correlation between the ranks of the Baath Party and dismissed from the party for moral reasons can not be covered)).

In light of the information available to the Security Directorate sent the Directorate of General Security Directorate confidentiality restrictions (identity) Paper No. T.. E 33274 at 2 / 5 / 1974 to the Police Directorate of Information and Rescue recommends it (not to approve the appointment of Hamid Jassim Ayham al-Samurai, in the police service of science Raja ). And it sent a copy to an officer with the conquest priorities for appropriate action.

After the Interior Ministry rejected membership of a police service for moral reasons to mislead (breakdowns Heroes) for a period of time and then disappeared from the Karkh Ayham, Ayham afternoon after leaders adopted the draft Iraq's future which is sponsored and funded by the U.S. State Department and became a close (and I Luc (l) Tom Hip) official in the Foreign Ministry, which pushed forward in this project and have exercised pressure on the Iraqi opposition conference in London to agree to attend the Samurai for the conference, although the parties, parties and political forces then-opposition were not defined a role until then, and then in Salahuddin conference that the embargo imposed after the U.S. State Department on the Iraqi opposition and was at the time that citizens boast that one of the supporters of the U.S. Republican Party and that payment (1000 dollars) (offset in Doubles after thousands of Iraqi involvement) contributions in support of the party in American elections.

After the liberation of Iraq and the fall of the Saddam regime and the establishment of the Governing Council was meant by a Council member to fill the post of minister of electricity but the member nominated by the Governing Council announced after the (More specifically face) that regret this choice. And actually became a minister of electricity in the first Iraqi government has given Any special place in the Foreign Ministry where he was met by U.S. President George W. Bush and concern for his own. Ayham then continued his work as minister of electricity after the transfer of sovereignty to Iraq.

Electricity Ayham in Trakia

Campaign raised financial and administrative corruption led by Ayham al-Samurai, and implemented with the Coterie tired, he takes over the ministerial (September 2003 - May 2005) the wrath of the Iraqi arena to the extent of the damage that affected the development of electric power in the country despite the billions of dollars of American el-Hilweh, which has been disbursed through Dozens of contracts signed by the Samurai with Arab and foreign companies to improve the energy situation and the estimated amount of more than one billion U.S. dollars, at the time was unable to provide the Ministry of Electricity citizen more than two hours electricity in order to implement the programme (in order to forget) over almost two years!.

It should be noted that after the fall of the former regime in the 9 / 4 / 2003 was the electricity sector of the first sectors began to associate at work if he met a number of managers and workers at the station south of Baghdad and discussed how to solve the electricity crisis, which suffered substantial damage to its system by the war. At that time was to rely entirely on d. Karim Wahid and Mr Leith Shaykhli to restore the system to work and repair the irreparable damage and that the system was evident for Nader in the form of waste. For the purpose of implementing the Electricity Authority was formed, the new leadership was led by Dr.. Karim Wahid of the Department of Labour, and managed this body, despite the harsh conditions to complete a large part of the task to the extent that the electricity supply returned to the city of Baghdad and other Iraqi national effort and sincere.

Having announced in September 2003 on the formation of the ministry instead of the Electricity Authority called (Abu Dhaka) minister Ayham al-Samurai, and of course it was not the savior of the statutes in front of America that will get appointed to the post of Minister Dr.. Karim sole agent of the ministry and Mr Leith Shaykhli adviser there.

However, this configuration did not meet the aspirations of Ayham al-Samurai, and his ideas malignant and so a series of administrative procedures were in the forefront d assignment. Karim Wahid and Leith Shaykhli to retire because they specifically d. Wahid was an obstacle in the way of implementation of the Samurai-corruption campaign, which had been planned, after That the greatest scandal Any possible to do the Minister to issue an administrative change career titles to his followers, and so make some personnel who failed to get a Bachelor degree Senior Engineer, has implicated some of them in the implementation of the campaign financial and administrative corruption that led Samurai.

For the purpose of the provisions of the ministry retained his grip on the Samurai b (d. Imad Hussein Al-Ani), one of the same type of Samurai, who is keen on state funds, where he was director general at the Ministry of Industry days of the former regime and sentenced to death for stealing state funds and commuted to imprisonment and confiscated his property movable and immovable , The worse catastrophe that has been on the Iraqi capital when it ordered the appointment of a senior agent for the ministry to the supervision of millions of dollars to sign contracts with Arab and foreign companies. Ani had taken advantage of this opportunity and during a short period of time and sweat of his forehead was able to buy (Villa) luxury in Amman, worth one million U.S. dollars, and of course the salary of private rather than thefts!!, Where he spent more days of work in the Ministry of Electricity, a resident in the Jordanian capital Amman, a Now the accused is a fugitive of justice in several corruption cases.

In order to complete the plan infernal circle of Samarra has been moved Services (Fawzi Al-Najm Abdullah) is one of the other employees of the Ministry of Industry days of the former regime and an employee in the office of Hussein Kamel (Saddam's son-in-law) was promoted to director of administration at the ministry, however, he was suspended for bad reputation Can not be tolerated. These specifications, which is characterized by Fawzi Al-Najm Abdullah was searched by Ayham al-Samurai, because when the bird rests on the forms as they say, rushed to his post of Director of the Office of the Minister and lifted to the point, director general of the Office of the Minister grant the necessary powers to be a central element in a campaign financial corruption And Rules. The documents revealed his role in this is now a fugitive outside Iraq and accused of several corruption cases, required Iraq to justice.

The persistence of the tripartite (Ayham al-Samurai, and Imad Fawzi Al-Ani and star) in the looting and stealing people's money contract amounts, however, all arrogance said Ayham al-Samurai, at the beginning in 2005 as optimistic and works to raise the production of electrical energy to reach (6000) Mika watt any increase (2000 ) Mika watt than it was in in 2003 and $ (4000) Mika watt. But the truth is that the actual production of energy seemed low, as increased Alantefaouat and entertainment on the way to White and the escalation of the number of towers and damaged the electrical system has become a woefully having seen the worst management of the ministry in its history following the neglect of electrical stations and left to conduct necessary maintenance on a regular basis and sound because of concern Minister arrange to send Anhmake travel continued to arrange contracts (your child) and left the ministry tampering by the Director of Library fugitive (Fawzi Al-Najm Abdullah), which became effective is the minister of the ministry and the sole dictator and influential in every street and contained and the supervisor of negotiations with the companies responsible for appointments and exchange bonuses for managers and officials Samurai loyal to the minister only.

It is worth mentioning that the ministry was taken from the first floor of the Ministry of Oil, headquartered, has supervised Fawzi commissioned by the minister to furnish the floor to be a center of the ministry, spend hundreds of millions of dinars to do so. Half of this amount if not more was Ett pocket Fawzi himself!, At the time was overseen by agreement with the Samurai restoration Building Company for Electricity Distribution center and the furnishing of the new headquarters of the ministry and the cost of more than two billion dinars, and some just to please them smell great scandal when workers discovered In the ministry that the amounts disbursed to the new building imaginary That prompted the Internet to challenge the quality of computer equipment that had been imported to prepare more than a thousand of poor quality and high prices and non-compliance to the required specifications, where the computers of category 3 and category 4 at a price higher than here, forcing the minister To take administrative action and quick way to Mr. (the president) to punish the entire Internet in the ministry and transferred to a small Division through its integration with one of the ministry directorates!.

At the time spent working in the ministry when talking about the financial and administrative corruption within the ministry (Imad Al-Ani) agent Ayham al-Samurai, senior resident in Oman enters into contracts with companies in contravention of all administrative and financial controls under the supervision of Ayham al-Samurai. For an interview with the rest.

Alsammarae on Obama: "the new face of America who understands the anger of the Arabs ... and will return to American role in the world."

Another take on Alsammarae's interview last month,

The Minister Ayham al-Samurai Alkahria previous Sunday he had decided to return to Iraq to engage in political work after having acquitted of charges of corruption made against him.

He said al-Samurai, who holds dual U.S. and Iraqi in a press conference in Amman that he had acquitted in May of last May and that he would return to Baghdad soon.

He said: "I am returning to Baghdad at the end (July) in July for the exercise of political action in the bloc, Iyad Allawi."

He added that the members of this movement are a mix of Iraqis who represent the new Iraq and not Iraq last five years which "was a sectarian Sunni or Shiite."

He said Samurai "I believe that the Iraqi government will be the responsibility of protection. If I am afraid entered means they worse than (former Iraqi president) and held the Samurai, who was one of the symbols of the Iraqi opposition before the invasion of Iraq and the post of minister of electricity between September and March in September 2003 to March 2005 the Government of Iyad Allawi. She drew him of corruption charges in 2006 and said she fabricated accusations to settle accounts for his positions hostile to Iran and the Shiite militias.

He was sentenced to two years in prison but escaped from prison in December in December of that same year and submitted to Amman aboard an American plane.

He said al-Samurai, who supported the decision of U.S. President George Bush's invasion of Iraq that he feels remorse five years after the fall of Iraq and supported the Democratic candidate Barack Obama because "the new face of America who understands the anger of the Arabs ... and will return to American role in the world."

He described the Samurai, who said he sought to open lines between Iraqi resistance and American resistance as "legitimate against the occupation."

Alsammarae: I will return to Iraq in July

More from Alsammarae's interview. Anyone have a better translation please comment or email me.

At the same context, the disclosure of Samurai held a press conference during the next few weeks in Washington, to clarify the nature of the charges against him and to deny the American public opinion, especially after these accusations were raised against the backdrop of the recent issue of the American Alumblyarder out of a Syrian Tony, who was the U.S. government charges Exploiting its relationship with the Governor of Illinois to obtain benefits from the government.

He explained that "this Alumblyarder helped a lot of politicians, including Barak Obama and Governor of Illinois, through the collection of donations, one of the old friends, and when the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, arrested him and a friend dear to you to ensure financial $ 3 Millions of dollars to take him out of prison, then the minimum and did not sit and stated time and the American media of alleged corruption case against me. CNN Arabic Language news quoting Alsammarae on Chalabi last year. Chalabi must have a file on Alsammarae that would choke a horse.
The former Iraqi minister said: "The campaign started with the Baghdad newspaper owned by Chalabi, which began introduced the reports on the problems in the electricity sector, in order to discredit them."

He added: "Council accused him of wasting two billion dollars, note that the budget of the ministries during the entire period in which I spent in administration, did not exceed 859 million dollars."

Hossam Al Azzawi on Alsammarae

A google translation of Hossam Al-Azzawi denying Alsammarae would join the Iraqi List.

Amazing the Obama campaign can't make a similar denunciation of Obama supporter Alsammarae.
Al-Azzawi and pointed out that "the draft list does not believe the Iraqi violence and the carrying of arms outside the framework of the state under any guise, it is unlikely, too, that the project includes the Iraqi National List of people claiming to bear arms and to attack others" as he put it.

The Samurai had confirmed at the same press conference he held in Amman last Sunday "support for the legitimate armed resistance against the multinational forces" as he put it, calling for "increased political wing of the Palestinian resistance, which must continue its work."
Also note Nibras Kazimi on Alsammarae's years with Rezko at IIT,
I had seen part of Alsammarrae’s General Intelligence Directorate file back in Baghdad, and he’s identified as a snitch that had worked for the Saddam regime while he was a student in the 1970s, reporting on the political activities and utterances of fellow Iraqi students then pursuing their degrees in the UK.

Bayraktar: the prosecution of former minister of electricity and if his return

Ayham al-Samurai, and former Minister of Electricity

His spokesman judge Supreme Judicial Council (Abdul Sattar Albouaprkdar) that the competent courts of the Council will hunt down the former Minister of Electricity (Ayham al-Samurai) in the event of his return to Baghdad. Albouaprkdar explained that the competent courts have already issued a Samurai right set of provisions in absentia, which is still in force and included prison sentences of varying periods. He added Bayraktar said that the verdicts issued against Samurai was convicted on the basis of squandering public funds and abuse of office as minister of career

Gabor Steingart: Obama's Romantic Revolution

A good column from Der Spiegel (HT RBO from the new Weekend Top List ... new format works fine for me RBO). Steingart wrote,
The 200,000 onlookers who thronged to listen to Obama's speech should not deceive us. Listening is not the same as agreeing. Obama divides people, and not along traditional party lines.

It is, anyway, a great mistake to divide the voters in Western nations into left and right, aggressive and peace-loving, market orientated and critical of capitalism. In reality there are just two types of voters: the romantic democrats and the common-sense democrats.

The first type -- the romantics -- love the big moments and the pretty words. They prefer the higher tone and look at a politician's mouth first. They often have nothing but contempt for pragmatic politicians.

Then there are the common-sense democrats, who look at a politician's hands first. They are interested in what the politician does, not in what he or she says. They look for records of success and concepts for change and are often allergic to political preaching. Has the government really worked flat out for the people or has everything just been made to look that way? Does the candidate have solid alternatives or is he just a dazzler?

So far, Obama has been the candidate for the romantics. His skill lies in enchanting his supporters with words. Whatever is held against him, his supporters turn into his favor. The man is an unknown quantity -- no mud sticks to him! The man is measured -- no, he is visionary! He wants to save the entire world -- but it does desperately need to be saved, doesn't it?

National Health Care Reform (Cook County Health Care Reform)

Want an idea of what Obama's plan for National Health Care would be then just talk a look with the way these guys run Cook County Hospital... the largest public Hospital in the nation. Pat Hickey channeling the Sun Time's Tim Novak,
While on the county payroll, a top urologist at Cook County Hospital solicited nearly $1 million from drug companies over the last decade for his private foundation.

Dr. Paul S. Ray's pitch was that the money would go toward medical research and education.

Dr. Paul S. Ray has been granted immunity from prosecution to testify against Tony Rezko in a still-pending criminal case.

But most of the money hasn't gone to health care at all. Instead, Ray invested it -- mostly in Tony Rezko.

Rezko is the convicted influence-peddler who had been a prodigious fund-raiser for politicians including Sen. Barack Obama, Gov. Blagojevich and the late Cook County Board President John Stroger, the ultimate boss of the county hospitals.

Michael Van Winkle: Introducing Barack Obama, The Politician

Van Winkle speaks for a lot of us in Chicago,
Okay. Okay. You have to stop using “Obama” and “Change” in the same breath. I'm begging. Because when I hear that, I get shooting pains through my arms and I begin to sweat in places I didn't know existed. Needless to say, I'm getting concerned about my health.

I live in Cook County, Illinois, see, and we knew Obama long before he was a tingle in Chris Matthews' leg. You may have heard of Cook County; it is home to Chicago. And of course, Chicago isn't known for its inspirational politics. Charles Merriam famously called it “the only completely corrupt city in America.”

So the notion that a politician cut from the machine of Illinois politics, and specifically Chicago politics, could “change” American politics is frankly ... well ... absurd. And yet half this country has bought into that very idea.

Gerard Baker: He ventured forth to bring light to the world

And it came to pass, in the eighth year of the reign of the evil Bush the Younger (The Ignorant), when the whole land from the Arabian desert to the shores of the Great Lakes had been laid barren, that a Child appeared in the wilderness.

The Child was blessed in looks and intellect. Scion of a simple family, offspring of a miraculous union, grandson of a typical white person and an African peasant. And yea, as he grew, the Child walked in the path of righteousness, with only the occasional detour into the odd weed and a little blow.

When he was twelve years old, they found him in the temple in the City of Chicago, arguing the finer points of community organisation with the Prophet Jeremiah and the Elders. And the Elders were astonished at what they heard and said among themselves: “Verily, who is this Child that he opens our hearts and minds to the audacity of hope?”

Obama's Senate Banking Committee

Of course, he's not on the Senate Banking Committee.... via The Real Barack Obama

Chalabi, Obama, and Alsammarae

Jeffrey Goldberg in the Atlantic via The Real Barack Obama's What does Chalabi want from Obama.
Two sources, one in Iraq, the other in Washington, told me that Ahmed Chalabi was key in Maliki’s decision to rather ostentatiously endorse Barack Obama’s Iraq withdrawal time-line. Chalabi, of course, has been in and out — mostly out — of favor with the Bush Administration, but it’s not merely revenge that motivated his advice to Maliki. “Chalabi knows American politics better than nearly every other Iraqi politician, and he knows it’s time to line up with the candidate who has the better-than-even shot of becoming President,” one source told me.

I can’t imagine that Obama will be adding Chalabi anytime soon to his roster of 300 foreign policy advisers, despite the favor Chalabi has apparently done on his behalf.
Alsammarae's endorsement a few weeks ago, now Chalabi advice to Maliki. It's not hard to figure though. Iraqi's have the scoop on Obama's ties with Mike Runman, Daniel Frawely, and Tony Rezko on the Chamchamal power plant deal.

We exported Chicago style Democracy to Iraq Chicago and the Iraqi's have learned how to play.

It's a step up for Iraq, but we may well end up with the Iraqi's having the goods on an American Prez. They'll use those files unless Fitz uses his first.

Also read Did someone mention Kurdistan?
The Iraqi government and head of northern Iraq’s regional Kurdish administration, Massoud Barzani, along with the leadership of US forces in Iraq have started to suggest that American forces be permanently based in Kurdistan. [...]

Iraqi and US negotiations continued in Baghdad to conclude a memorandum of understanding to sign this agreement, which will allow the US military to stay permanently in Kurdistan, and Iraqi and US negotiators agreed to focus these negotiations on the issue of determining a timetable for the agreement.
Funny Obama ommitted this one.

More Obama on Afganistan

via Minn Star Tribune,
"Our message to the Afghan government is this: We want a strong partnership based on 'more for more' — more resources from the United States and NATO, and more action from the Afghan government to improve the lives of the Afghan people," Obama and Sens. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., and Jack Reed, D-R.I., said in a joint statement. "We need a sense of urgency and determination.

"We need urgency because the threat from the Taliban and al-Qaida is growing and we must act; we need determination because it will take time to prevail," they said. "But with the right strategy and the resources to back it up, we will get the job done."
Sounds like that Mukasey's Declaration of War would add the sense of urgency and determination. What say you Congressman Foster on entering it into the House?

McCain's Pump ad

Attention Caputo's Shoppers: the ethanol boom

A sign at the Caputo's in South Elgin.

Ought to have copy to Durbin and Obama's letter on keeping out Brazilian ethanol.

Iraqi MP Mithal Alusi

More Kazimi on Iraqi Liberal Mithal Alusi,
Is Senator Obama going to make time during his brief ‘fact-finding’ stopover in Baghdad today for the likes of Alusi, who survives as a living testament to the tremendous sacrifices paid by Iraqis for the cause of democracy? Does Obama even know of Alusi?

Doubt it. I wonder how many Americans know of him either.

Oddly enough, Alusi was pondering selling his share of the house to other family members in order to finance his upcoming provincial election campaign.
Liberalism's great disgrace will be not showing solidarity with brave people like this.

Nibras Kazimi: Stop Terror's Next Act

From Kazimi's latest,
And now that they have been defeated in Iraq — anyone saying otherwise is either clueless or being purposely mendacious — America has in fact achieved something far greater than a military victory: America's soldiers have smashed the nascent state of the caliphate; the dream is no more. This is a fate far worse than death for the jihadists, who enthusiastically embrace dying for their cause of resurrecting an Islamic empire as a noble act of martyrdom. Should Mr. bin Laden be killed or captured, then he would remain an undiminished hero in their eyes; while Americans may think that this would count as victory, the jihadists may simply shrug it off. However, seeing their state collapse in Iraq is their own nadir of demoralization and ideological defeat.

I wonder if Mr. Obama understands all of that. Keeping troops in Iraq is not an end unto itself, yet victory is. Stationing more troops than are necessary to maintain the fruits of victory was never one of America's war aims. Victory is easily defined as having a democratic and independent state of Iraq (check) and preventing another "Islamic State of Iraq" (check).

Prime Minister Maliki recently welcomed Mr. Obama's withdrawal plan with caveats and this sent the usual pundits a-twitter, but whereas Mr. Obama was thinking in terms of retreat, Mr. Maliki on the other hand was suggesting the natural outcome of victory: that America's soldiers, who had fought a hard won yet incidental battle against the ultimate jihadist aim of resurrecting an Islamic Empire, could go home with laurels and to acclaim.
But it's not a happy column. Unlike Obama and Foster, Kazimi doesn't think the next front will be Afganistan; the jihadists are heading for Europe,
Going back to Afghanistan is an abhorred historical regression, and certainly the pride of the Zarqawists, the most radical and once most successful of the jihadists, will not allow them to hide away in some cave in Waziristan after they had attempted a project as historically grand as the new caliphate in Baghdad. They will come back bigger, deadlier and far more audacious, as is their style, the next time around. Mr. Obama and his European hosts need to update what they think they know about the enemy before the enemy catches its breath.

Bill Foster, Obama, and Mukasey's call for a Declaration of War

Bill Foster told me we need to send more troops.
...Al Qaeda is regenerating along the Pakistan/Afghanistan border. It is long past time to begin to redeploy and rebuild our forces. Our presence in Iraq and the Administration's management of the conflict is diminishing our ability to fight our true enemies, and it is preventing us from addressing needs here at home.
Obama told us on Face the Nation below that situation in Afganistan (and Pakistan?) is precarious and urgent, and we should tell the Afganistani's America will stay for the long haul (No timelines or horizons in Afganistan! No talk of retreat from and endless civil war.)

Then maybe Mukasey's call to Congress for a Declaration of War against al Qaeda, the Taliban and associated organizations will give the focus on the foe Obama and Foster believe the Administration's lost.

Also, Obama's Disastrous Interview About Hunting Osama bin Laden at NRO.

Fox has the full interview here. And note these gems... no doubts on his eight to ten year presidency.... great... just great.

Logan: Is this trip partly aimed at overcoming that perception that, you know, there is doubt among some Americans that you could lead a country at war as commander in chief from day one?

Obama: You know, the interesting thing is that the people who are very experienced in foreign affairs I don’t think have those doubts. The troops that I’ve been meeting with over the last several days, they don’t seem to have those doubts. So the objective of this trip was to have substantive discussions with people like President Karzai or Prime Minister Maliki or President Sarkozy or others who I expect to be dealing with over the next eight to 10 years.

And it’s important for me to have a relationship with them early, that I start listening to them now, getting a sense of what their interests and concerns are. Because one of the shifts in foreign policy that I want to execute as president is giving the world a clear message that America intends to continue to show leadership but our style of leadership is going to be less unilateral, that we’re going to see our role as building partnerships around the world that are of mutual interest to the parties involved.

And I think this gives me a head start in that process.

Logan: Do you have any doubts?

Obama: Never.
What say you Bill Foster? Time to call a War a War? Congress can act. Maybe Obama is right.

Aiham Alsammarae (aka Ayham Al Sammarrai) on Obama's Baghdad visit?

Dr Alsammarae,

Are you going to use the opportunity of the visit to speak out a bit (again)? There is a lot of press out there following Obama.

The Obama Iraq Documentary: Whatever the Politics Demand

via The McCain Report.

Weis on Murder

Glad he cleared this one up. From the ST,
Weis said he wanted to clear up "misconceptions" about crime in Chicago. He acknowledged murder is up 13 percent this year, along with other crime, but said the city is still on track to finish 2008 with fewer than 500 killings.

In 2004, murders in Chicago dipped below 500 for the first time in about 40 years and have stayed under that level since then.
Other Democrats may call Blagojevich nuts but credit the Gov for getting drastic over Democratic complacency with a war that's scarred the city. It's the greatest social injustice leveled upon the poor, young, and aged in Chicago.

Fitz on Cook County Jail

I haven't read it yet but I know a guy who refused 180 days community service and took ten days at the House instead. A big mistake even though ten days got reduced to a weekend to get inmates out quickly.

Years ago I tutored inmates with Safer Foundation. I was leaning by an open, but still barred and screened, door to a fire escape because the airconditioning had broken. A inmate casually told me I might get shot by guards and should step away from the door. The casual way he mentioned my getting shot has stuck with me.

From Today's Trib,
In a scathing report released Thursday, federal authorities said that a culture exists at Cook County Jail in which inmates are systematically beaten by guards and medical care is so substandard that some inmates have died.

The Justice Department threatened legal action if steps aren't taken to ensure that inmates' basic constitutional rights aren't routinely violated.

In the 98-page report, the U.S. attorney's office in Chicago and the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division called the complex violent and pointed to a raft of problems ranging from unsanitary conditions to inadequate mental health care and suicide-prevention measures.

At a news conference, U.S. Atty. Patrick Fitzgerald called on the Cook County Board and Sheriff Tom Dart to fix a dangerous jail that is "woefully inadequate."

Bill Foster on Ethanol (What's he say on imported ethanol?)

Msg to Foster Staff: If Foster has a position on that tariff on Brazial Ethanol Durbin and Obama have supported, please send it to me and I will publish. From his site on ethanol,
There are both opportunities and dangers in biofuels. Here are two examples that indicate how the 14th District is dependent on the technological and business sense in Congress:

1. Over-Subsidization of Corn-to-Ethanol Plants. The large subsidies for corn-based ethanol plants is causing large numbers of them continue to be built even thought they are known to be non-competitive in the long term. To understand how serious the situation is, consider that by some estimates, when all of the planned corn-to-ethanol plant capacity is built, Iowa will become a net importer of corn. Those most likely to be hurt when the ethanol "bubble" bursts are not the large agribusiness and large-scale producers of ethanol, but the small groups of independent farmers who have banded together to invest in small scale corn-to-ethanol operations.

2. Which Biofuel Should Congress Invest in? It is far from clear that ethanol is the best long term bio-energy fuel. Other bio-fuels (such as butanol or 2,5-Dimethyl Furan) get more miles per gallon than ethanol and they do not corrode piping and storage tanks. However, the House of Representatives recently passed legislation providing money to upgrade piping and storage to avoid the corrosion problems of ethanol. If the final best choice for biofuels is not ethanol but some less corrosive fuel, then much of this money will have been misspent. As always, good business judgment is essential.
Right now I'd say Durbin and Obama want Congress invested in ADM and that convinces me it would be best to get Congress out of the investment business all together and leave this one open for market solutions. Right now... I'm betting on much more misspending.

Michael Yon: the Iraq War is over. We won. Which means the Iraqi people won.

Michael Yon online,
The war continues to abate in Iraq. Violence is still present, but, of course, Iraq was a relatively violent place long before Coalition forces moved in. I would go so far as to say that barring any major and unexpected developments (like an Israeli air strike on Iran and the retaliations that would follow), a fair-minded person could say with reasonable certainty that the war has ended. A new and better nation is growing legs. What's left is messy politics that likely will be punctuated by low-level violence and the occasional spectacular attack. Yet, the will of the Iraqi people has changed, and the Iraqi military has dramatically improved, so those spectacular attacks are diminishing along with the regular violence. Now it's time to rebuild the country, and create a pluralistic, stable and peaceful Iraq. That will be long, hard work. But by my estimation, the Iraq War is over. We won. Which means the Iraqi people won.

Goldfarb on Obama: Hoping for the Best

A good post from Michael in full,
Barack Obama today:
The Afghan people must know that our commitment to their future is enduring, because the security of Afghanistan and the United States is shared.
And what of the Iraqis? Why isn't it important for the Iraqis to know that our commitment to their future is enduring? Does Obama really think that Afghanistan is more geostrategically central to our interests than Iraq? Has he looked at a map recently?

On the subject of Iraq, Obama is focused on "ending" the war, apparently with little regard for the security of Iraq:

To achieve that success, I will give our military a new mission on my first day in office: ending this war. Let me be clear: we must be as careful getting out of Iraq as we were careless getting in. We can safely redeploy our combat brigades at a pace that would remove them in 16 months. That would be the summer of 2010 – one year after Iraqi Security Forces will be prepared to stand up; two years from now, and more than seven years after the war began. After this redeployment, we’ll keep a residual force to perform specific missions in Iraq: targeting any remnants of al Qaeda; protecting our service members and diplomats; and training and supporting Iraq’s Security Forces, so long as the Iraqis make political progress.
Planning for the most optimistic possible scenario--sound familiar to anyone? McCain is offering realism in place of the failed hyper-optimism of the early Bush administration. Obama sneers at McCain saying the Iraqis will greet us as liberators (which many are now doing, by the way). But he then assumes that his plan will work perfectly and all his assumptions are unquestionably sound--without even going there. Sounds like same-old, same-old.

Obama on Bill Foster's 1,400 year long Civil War in Iraq

From MNF-I's site,

Maj. Gen. Michael Oates, commanding general of Multi-National Division - Center, and Maj. Gen. Ali Salih Farhood Oothman, 8th Iraqi army dvision commander, answer questions during a Pentagon press conference on Camp Victory on July 10. Photo by Staff Sgt. Michel Sauret.

The bonds created from success in battle so strong now that the talks on time tables for withdrawel seem moot. Iraq's becoming a strong ally of the US in the Middle East regardless of the terms and time tables that are established.
Improved security in the communities allows the Iraqi government to reopen court houses, build new schools, improve medical facilities, clean out canals, pave roads and fund other local projects. With violence on the decline, Coalition and Iraqi forces have been able to spend more time in the neighborhoods and gain trust in the people’s eyes.

As stability continues to improve, Oates said he looks forward to fair and safe elections; an improving economy; civic responsibility among leaders and politicians; an Iraqi Army that continues to gain professionalism; and more programs funded by the Government of Iraq.
No President or Congressman will easily walk away from this success won at such painful cost.

Obama and Blagojevich

Well, we know Axelrod was no fool.

Update: This pic's so popular, I started a caption contest.

Update: Dan Curry with a quote from David Wilhelm

Talk about poor judgement... from Ryan Lizza's Making it . On Obama's hand in giving Illinois the Blagojevich-Rezko regime.
That year, he gained his first high-level experience in a statewide campaign when he advised the victorious gubernatorial candidate Rod Blagojevich, another politician with a funny name and a message of reform. Rahm Emanuel, a congressman from Chicago and a friend of Obama’s, told me that he, Obama, David Wilhelm, who was Blagojevich’s campaign co-chair, and another Blagojevich aide were the top strategists of Blagojevich’s victory. He and Obama “participated in a small group that met weekly when Rod was running for governor,” Emanuel said. “We basically laid out the general election, Barack and I and these two.” A spokesman for Blagojevich confirmed Emanuel’s account, although David Wilhelm, who now works for Obama, said that Emanuel had overstated Obama’s role. “There was an advisory council that was inclusive of Rahm and Barack but not limited to them,” Wilhelm said, and he disputed the notion that Obama was “an architect or one of the principal strategists.”

David Axelrod, the preëminent strategist in the state, declined to work for Blagojevich. “He had been my client and I had a very good relationship with him, but I didn’t sign on to the governor’s race,” Axelrod said. “Obviously he won, but I had concerns about it. . . . I was concerned about whether he was ready for that. Not so much for the race but for governing. I was concerned about some of the folks—I was concerned about how the race was being approached.” Axelrod’s unease was warranted. Blagojevich and people close to him have been tied to a seemingly endless series of scandals. The trial of Tony Rezko revealed that Rezko used his influence in the Blagojevich administration to profit from companies seeking business with the state. There is speculation that Blagojevich will be the next governor to be indicted, and the Democratic Speaker of the Illinois House, Michael Madigan, has raised the issue of impeachment.
Update: Check Steve Diamond's review of Lizza over at The Real Barack Obama,
Of course, if Lizza put the Obama-Ayers relationship back as far as the 1987-88 ABCs days, that would contradict the line being put out by the Obama campaign and would open up another wound in the credibility of the Obama machine. At some point those add up, a turning point is reached and the magic wears off. That, surely, is something Lizza clearly and no doubt desperately wants to avoid.

The willful blindness of the liberal left to the origins of Barack Obama’s rise to power, including his close and long standing political relationship to Bill Ayers, is something we have not seen in this country since the run-up to the Iraq war. That war had Judith Miller, this year’s Presidential campaign has Ryan Lizza.
Lizza missed much including the whole Nadhmi Auchi connection too.

Strassel in WSJ: Dick Durbin and the Chicago Boys

Kimberley Strassel on Durbin carrying water for his oil-speculating-patrons (Rahm's too) over at the Mercantile Exchange: Dick Durbin and the Chicago Boys
...under the Durbin strategy, they [Democrats]can continue the sham of getting tough on speculators, all the while knowing he will see to it they aren't allowed to wantonly destroy U.S. financial markets. As a bonus, Mr. Durbin can privately take credit for rescuing his hometown industry, sucking up its support and donations for his re-election bid this fall. The only losers are voters, who've yet to be let in on the joke of this "speculation" farce.
Where are the radicals when you need 'em? Tell the Doc his heart is in the right place been when you're dealing with the magnates of speculation a candidates gotta play a little tougher. When the progressives are in bed with high-finance it's time to play a populist card yourself. When you're as far behind as Sauerberg there's no risk throwing some rocks at windows around LaSalle street, the combine be damned. Then consider throwing a few around Decatur at Durbin's friends in Agri Biz on that 54 cent-per-gallon on imported ethanol

Rich Miller solves Obama's experience problem

Miller solves Obama's experience deficit with a return to Springfield to save Illinoisians from ourselves? Obama's fellow Democrats? ...go pick but it's an excellant idea.
So, I have a different solution. One that would almost assuredly tell us whether Obama can survive the presidency’s unimaginably hostile environment.

Let’s make him come back to Springfield and solve the gridlock.

Sen. Dick Durbin said months ago that he’d rather go to Iraq and work on that mess than stick his nose into the unending war between Gov. Blagojevich and House Speaker Michael Madigan. I can relate.

“Toxic gridlock” doesn’t even begin to describe our state’s embarrassing political battle, which has held up just about all progress for more than a year. Unemployment is rising, yet a jobs-producing capital construction bill for our roads, bridges, schools and mass transit is stuck in limbo. People are going without health insurance, but solutions can’t be reached because one side doesn’t want to work with the other. Nothing — literally nothing — is being accomplished because the governor and the speaker want to crush each other.

The Israelis talk to the Palestinians more often and with more sensitivity than Madigan speaks with Blagojevich.

Nobody is getting killed at the Statehouse, at least not yet. There are no bullets and bombs in this fight, no mass slaughter like the Darfur catastrophe, no Iraq-style religious war.

But that makes it the perfect training exercise. If Obama fails, we’ll just muddle on like always and hope that somebody comes to his senses.
We do have the slaughter in Chicago from gang warfare too... maybe that's the next test.

Rove subena, Bush Impeachment, get the feeling Dems worried about Obama flips?

Pelosi is talking up impeachment again. Progressives getting energized over Rove. Get the feeling Obama supporters a little worried over Obama flipping on FISA, or sounding like he might listen to General Petreaus's wise counsel on winning the War, so now dragging out last year's issues to scare the base back in line a bit?

Meaningless stuff (as though a Prez Obama wouldn't defend separation-of-powers if Axelrod subeaned for a witch hunt!) thrown at progressives suffering buyer's remorse with Obama.

So instead of dealing with real threats, and oil prices, and things that matter; we're getting-warmed-over, phony politics, from past years.

Update: Check Beckel's 'What's Wrong With Senator Obama?' too see the juice Democrats are trying to pump back into the campaign. Rove and Impeachment's not going to do it.

Austen Bey: Obama's tack on Iraq

From Bey via The Real Barack Obama,
We have now seen enough of Barack Obama's campaign to get an idea of his remarkably agile strategic plan. Mr. Obama bills himself as the candidate of "change and hope" — and change is a key component in his plan, if by change we mean radical political flexibility characterized by dramatic shifts in fundamental policy, or quickly substituting today's iron-clad principles for last week's rusting certainties, or adroitly morphing his eternal verity of Old Testament May into a revised piety befitting New Age July.

Ozinga's First Ad

Nice to see a Dutch guy running for Congress.

Bill Foster on Impeachment (Bush, not Blagojevich)

From The Nation,
Pelosi, who famously declared impeachment to be "off the table" before the 2006 election, now suggests that hearings on the president's high crimes and misdemeanors are a distinct possibility.

"My expectation is that there will be some review of that in the committee," the California Democrat told reporters Thursday.

"This is a Judiciary Committee matter, and I believe we will see some attention being paid to it by the Judiciary Committee," Pelosi explained.
A good question to ask Bill Foster.

Bill Foster on FISA

Kos citing Foster on FISA,
Bottom line is that Obama wants to cave on FISA not because of "moving to the center" concerns, but because they are afraid of television ads claiming Obama is inviting terrorists over for BBQ. It's the same crappy-style ads that failed miserably in the IL-14 special election (and Foster went on to vote against the FISA capitulation) and have gotten little traction this year. But the Obama campaign thinks that by capitulating, it'll "take the issue off the table", as if Republicans need any excuse to accuse Democrats of being weak on terror.
Ok, I'll retry the crappy-style frame.

Foster's talking tough, at least in emails to me, on Afganistan
As firm as I am about our obligation to our troops, I am troubled about their continued presence in Iraq. While we continue to referee a 1,400-year-old civil war there, Al Qaeda is regenerating along the Pakistan/Afghanistan border. It is long past time to begin to redeploy and rebuild our forces.
So if Foster will redeploy to hunt down and kill Al Qaeda, what's the issue with listening in on their phone calls to the US? It's ok to send the killer-hunter teams and predator drones to blow these guys out of their beds and caves, but listening to their phone calls is a civil liberties issue?

Tough and wimpy in the same battle space is not a good mix Congressman. What do you tell that soldier in the field listening to AQ's comms? Shoot the foe is fine but listen to his call to the States and I won't stand in the way of him suing you over it?

Battle Over Sadr City Defines Apache Helicopter Regiment’s Tour in Iraq

Bill Murray on Tactical Operation Centers during the Battle for Sadr City this past April. A battle I watched from the IZ.
The evolution of US Army’s TOCs during the Iraqi conflict may be among the biggest reasons why the military "surge" in the past year has helped cut year-on-year violence in the country by up to 80 percent, according to the Department of Defense.

The near instantaneous, error-free communication between air surveillance and ground troops has allowed much fewer troops on the ground to coordinate with air support and Iraqi forces, making units such as the 10th Mountain Division a potent constabulary force using a fraction of the troops normally necessary for such role.

"The ground units have been ... getting high-value individuals, time-sensitive targets," said Apache pilot Chief Warrant Officer 4 Jeffrey Dumond. "They were sporadic before in Sadr City. Then, it became everyday, then, several times a day. It seems to have worked. It’s uneventful out there now."

McCain on Obama and Bill Foster's 1,400 year old civil war in Iraq

From McCain on Obama.
He [Obama] said it [the surge] would fail, it has succeeded. [The] American people should take notice of that. So, I’ll see what he has to say when he gets back from his visit to Iraq. And, I’m sure he’ll be impressed with a sit down with one of the greatest generals that America has ever produced, General David Petraeus.
Obama should take Foster along for a reality check too with a real hero: Gen Petraeus.

The General's bringing Foster's 1,400 year old civil war to an end and it looks like a Victory for Democracy and a more peaceful world.

It wouldn't have happened had Americans listened to Obama and Foster a year ago.

Obama: ...when I was a senator

Obama getting ahead of himself from Reuters via The McCain Report's Measuring the Drapes,
Obama said he did not make a mistake on Wednesday with his choice of words in describing his Iraq position -- even though he called a second news conference a few hours after his initial comments to clarify his stance.

He laid the blame with reporters.

"I'm surprised at how finely calibrated every single word was measured. I wasn't saying anything I hadn't said before, that I didn't say a year ago or when I was a United States senator," said Obama, who is still a senator from Illinois.

O'Hanlon: Obama Has a Big Challenge

From The McCain Report which asks the big question,
Why is it that a politician whose lofty rhetoric so eloquently extols the great achievements of this country is unable to pay tribute to the progress of our troops in Iraq, and to modify his position accordingly?

Tom Hayden and Progressives for Obama on the Iraq pivot

From Tom Hayden at Progressives for Obama,
Obama's position, which always left a trail of unasked questions, now plants a seed of doubt, justifiably, among the peace bloc of American voters who harbor a legacy of betrayals beginning with Lyndon Johnson's 1064 pledge of "no wider war" through Richard Nixon's "secret plan for peace" to Ronald Reagan's Iran-Contra scandal and the deep complicity of Democrats in the evolution of the Iraq War.

It is difficult to understand Obama's motivation. Perhaps it is his lifetime success at straddling positions and disarming potential opponents. Perhaps it is a lawyer's training. Perhaps being surrounded by national security advisers who oppose what they call "precipitous withdrawal", and pragmatic Democrats distinctly uncomfortable with their antiwar roots.

What is clear is that Obama is responsive to pressures from the grass-roots base of a party that is overwhelmingly in favor of a shorter timetable for withdrawal than his, and favoring diplomatic rather than military solutions in Afghanistan and Pakistan. At a time that public interest in the war is receeding before economic concerns, it is time for the strongest possible reassertion of voter demands for peace.
Come on folks over at P for O! On what stands doesn't Obama leave trails of unasked questions and seeds of doubt?

He tells us in The Audacity of Hope he's a blank screen upon whom people of widely different views project their thoughts. Can't say Obama's didn't let you know up front he's awfully malleable stuff on surface. It was Rezko and the Todd Stroger endorsement that revealed the true Obama to me. That's Obama's core of iron.

There are the Obamas you read, the Obamas you hear, and the Obamas you watch vote; and they can be vastly different fellows.

I suspect it's the Obama who dealt with Rezko at the core. That tells us much about the bet Americans will make if we elect this guy.

Blagojevich's walls-closing-in air-getting-thin press conference

From the ST,
At first, Blagojevich answered the questions as he had in the past. "Tony Rezko is a friend who helped me. He helped Sen. [Barack] Obama. He helped [Illinois Attorney General] Lisa Madigan. . . . He helped all kinds of political figures," Blagojevich said.

But when told by a reporter that -- unlike the governor -- neither Madigan nor Obama, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, has been questioned by federal authorities about Rezko, Blagojevich seemed to suggest the reporter might be wrong.

"We don't know that about the other people," he said. "And let me simply say I know what I do and know how I do things. And I know I do things right."

Aides to both Madigan and Obama said investigators never have questioned them about Rezko's corruption case. Like Blagojevich, both have returned campaign contributions linked to Rezko.
Maybe the Guv's point was Fitz should be questioning Obama and (Lisa) Madigan too. Why gang-up on him? I think that's his point and he's right.

Interesting to see Progressives have tossed the Guv under the bus as a Bush Dog Democrat. So much for a guy who ran on All Kids. You're a Progressive looking for a friend, best buy a dog because they're not going to stick when the going gets tough.

Obama's Blackberry Day at Fargo on Bill Foster's 1,400 year old civil war in Iraq

John Batchelor writes Blackberry Day at Fargo on Obama's second try to explain his refinement on Iraq's 1,400 year old civil war. The video of the second go below frm MSNBC.

Recall Tony Blankley back in August 2007 on the Democrat's Disgrace,
The leadership of the Democratic Party has, by their public words this spring, disgraced themselves for a generation. Republicans have the right -- and the duty -- to engrave in the public mind the springtime Democratic perfidy and cowardice in the face of the enemy.

This spring and early summer: Sen. Harry Reid said the war is lost, Gov. Richardson said that on his first day in the Oval Office he would order our troops to leave Iraq immediately (even if it meant throwing down their weapons on the way out), Hillary bragged that if Bush doesn't end the war, she would do so immediately upon her arriving in the Oval Office (God preserve us), Sen. Obama took pride of place in his adamantine opposition to, and immediate departure from, the Iraq war.

Gen. Patton also observed, "Americans love a winner and will not tolerate a loser." That is as true today as it was six decades ago. (This is the great misread of the American public by the current Democratic Party. We Americans are only sentimental about dogs [we have three in our own family] -- not about human losers. We love kick-a-- football players -- unless they hurt a dog -- and then we righteously send them to hell -- where they belong.)

The public must not be permitted to forget these cowardly public statements by the Democrats. It is the job of the Republicans this fall and winter to remorselessly and repeatedly remind the public of what the Democrats were saying this spring. In that disgrace lies the potential for well deserved Democratic Party defeat next November.

Obama's Iraq Strike Force; Bill Foster's 1,400 year long civil war in Iraq

Michael Goldfarb finds Obama's Strike Force strategy is back in an inteview with Obama FP adviser Tony Lake.
But beyond that, Lake makes reference to what Obama has previously called a "strike force," a vague concept he has repeatedly invoked on the trail and which has prompted not the slightest curiosity among the press. What are these clearly defined missions? How large is this residual force? What is the threshold for "genocidal violence" and who would make the determination? One hopes Obama's other top foreign policy advisor, Susan Rice, would play no role. Rice was at the NSC in 1994 during the Rwandan genocide. According to Samantha Power, a former Obama advisor, during discussions within the administration on how to move forward, Rice asked "If we use the word 'genocide' and are seen as doing nothing, what will be the effect on the November [congressional] election?"

One gets the sense that remains the driving question within the Obama campaign on matters of national security and defense policy. Why else the stubborn refusal to acknowledge the recent and dramatic improvements in security in Iraq in favor of what might genuinely be called a responsible strategy.
Wonder how Obama's strike force will contend with the 1,400 year long civil war Patrick Murphy's telling Bill Foster engulfs Iraq.

Unlike the Clinton years, doing nothing isn't going to be an option for Susan Rice if the elections put her into the Gov again. Win or lose, it's going to be a tough time for Democrats. Reality will close in with vengence.

Multiple Obamas on Faith Based Programs

The Obama you read, the Obama you hear, and the Obama you see vote: that's the Obama triad.

Obama wrote in the Audacity of Hope he was a blank screen upon which different people projected different views.

Here's Michael Goldfarb showing the media getting tangled with Obama's blank-screen on the same day.
Obama seems to be on both sides of every issue, but it's rare that he's on both sides of an issue on the same day.

Headline number one, from the Associate Press:
"Obama to expand Bush's faith based programs"

Headline number two, from the Politico:
"Obama to scrap Bush faith-based office"
Also UU Rev Tittle: Obama's faith-based initiative won't work I've seen the programs do good things. Notably the homeless housing for Vets with Catholic Charities at St. Leo's in Chicago. But it's a source of political patronage too. I'd vote against my Church accepting Fed Funds probably.

Bill Foster on Iraq's 1,400-year-old civil war

I wonder if it was Patrick Murphy who told Foster Iraq in the midst of a 1,400-year-old civil war. I worked with some Iraqi's who would dispute that.

The tough talk on Afganistan is interesting though. More on that in a bit....
Dear Mr. Baar:

Thank you for contacting me about your concerns on the war in Iraq. I am honored to represent you and appreciate your participation in the governing process. Your involvement makes democracy work better by helping me more effectively represent you and Illinois' 14th District.

I share the concern of many Americans regarding our current involvement in Iraq. To honor the members of our armed forces and their families who have given the ultimate sacrifice, Congress must continue to conduct vigorous oversight and hold the administration and the Iraqi government accountable for our mission in Iraq. We also must provide our returning service members the care and benefits they deserve.

Our presence in Iraq and the Administration's management of the conflict is diminishing our ability to fight our true enemies, and it is preventing us from addressing needs here at home.

As I continue to evaluate our Iraq policy, I listen carefully to the views of those who served there. In particular, I rely on the advice of a colleague of mine, Congressman Patrick Murphy, who is a former Army Captain in the 82nd Airborne who served in Iraq. He personally experienced the results of the mismanagement of this war and grew weary of the strain it put on his family and fellow soldiers. Since being elected to Congress in 2006, he has led the charge to change our course in Iraq, and he is one of my most trusted advisors on this subject.

Going forward, Congress must work to make sure that the United States is effectively fighting terrorism and to do so we must ensure the strength of our military. As noted by many military experts, our military-especially the U.S. Army-is stretched thin. Without a change in course in Iraq, I am concerned our armed forces will not be fully prepared to respond to future threats. In the upcoming months, Congress will consider additional funding for the war in Iraq. Please know that I will keep your concerns in mind.

Hearing from the families I serve is vital to doing my job right. Thanks again for taking the time to share your concerns and I hope you keep in touch with me on this or any other issue you feel important. To stay informed of my work, or to sign up for my electronic newsletters, please visit my website at Please contact me if I can help you in the future.
