Iraqis Assume Control of Maysan Security

Pictures of today's handover of security in Maysan province by the Brits to the Iraqi Army in the struggle the Democrat's leader tells us is lost,
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) told President Bush that the surge is failing and the war has been lost during a White House meeting with Congressional leaders on Wednesday.

"This is the message I took to the president," Reid told reporters in a press conference Thursday

Bill, I think this is a fair question: By what criteria is the war in Iraq going well? When by your measure does a military solution become impossible/untenable there?

On Wednesday 191 people were killed in Baghdad. Conditions on the ground are terrible and not getting better. At some point redeployment does become the best available option. Doesn't it?

Iraqi Politics, that's proven much better than I expected. Especially the religous Shia groups.

A pure military solution isn't possible. The political solution comes when it dawns on the Sunni's that there really is no alternative for them other than a political solution. That they can't play the Iran card on the United States. When they realize terror is no longer an option.

The turn around in Anbar province is a sign this political solution is starting to happen.

But don't think this isn't a long haul.
